Title: rendering problems
Post by: littlet15 on April 15, 2010, 09:57:35 AM
ok, so i've done a render of a planet surface, and a few objects, hit a couple of weird glitches it looks like.
first off is the hole in my model, i've checked it in 3ds max, and theres definately no hole there, its roughly 70k vertices, and about 12k faces visible from this angle.
another one are the black dots in the sky, i'm guessing this is something to do with how i have my sky setup, or its all down to the sun tracing.
thanks in advance to all who try and help me learn :D

Have you tried running your model through poseray? A lot of model issues generally can get resolved by doing that as terragen seems to really like how poseray organizes the data.

As for the black dots in the sky, are you sure your tg2 is up to date? I know it used to be a bit more of an issue but they squashed that bug mostly out.  Do you see it every time you render? or if you re-render that part is it missing?

i'm using the deep version, and as far as i'm aware, its the latest, the build number is 2.1. something
i've actually realised theres some hardware errors on my gpu, which came to light whilst running a benchmark.
however, so far as i'm aware, these black dots aren't in any other of my renders, but i'm guessing that tg2 doesn't really use my gpu much.

Correct, terragen uses your cpu not gpu.

You can run a manual check for latest version by going to... help--> check for updates? i forget its somewhere around there just to make sure.  2.1 Fixed this (at least mostly I guess).

The black dots look like this issue:

i've changed the seed value on the clouds, and changed the alpha value of the atmospheric background colour, and now their gone, thanks for the trick with the object aswell, i imported it to 3ds max and retextured it, then re exported, and now its fine, thanks.
