Title: Rock objects
Post by: silentgod on April 16, 2010, 11:35:55 AM
Hey folks.

I`ve had a route around trying to find a guide on how to use/change rock objects (not fake stones) but can`t seem to find one.

Is there one somewhere I`ve just missed?

Thanks.

The rock object is a rather underdeveloped feature at this point. It's worth experimenting with, but there are a lot of limitations. You are often better off with a custom-modeled imported object or a Fake Stones shader. In the future we may choose to either develop the rock object further, or simply retire it in favor of improved Fake Stones implementations.

Yeah the built in rock object is rubbish.

As well as what Oshyan said you can also use the sphere object to create a better looking rock than the rock object.

I'd say it's far from rubbish. Just wrongly named, or something.

For instance, a sphere cannot be stretched along any axis, only its overall size can be changed.
Take a rock object, give it a couple of thousand faces, smooth normals and then you have a sphere that you can stretch AND populate...

I'd not like to see it go but maybe just renamed to a more sensible internal object, other than 'rock'.

I made this thing out of rocks... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=5312.0;attach=13973;image
