Title: Eerie Forest 2 different versions
Post by: Zairyn Arsyn on April 20, 2010, 08:11:13 AM
been struggling to get another good looking scene going...

i started working on this last night, & a second render is already in progress - i realized the atmosphere samples were too low, also made some other lighting changes

Objects used: Walli's Pines(2), & NWDA wild grass (2), (RArcher's dirt & soil pack was used too)

render time 1h 52m 56s, Detail 1, AA 8, GI 2/2

C & C always welcome.

Add some dry bushes from Walli's dry bush pack. Or Mr.Lamppost's bushes, which he has made free.

Very (!) good!

Now you just need to add a few "things" so it doesn't look so clean. Like bushes, twigs, a couple fallen trees, rocks maybe...

I really like the atmosphere in this one.
The only thing that looks a little strange to me is the color of the soil. It's way to bright in my opinion. It looks like sand which probably wouldn't support so much trees so close together. Besides, I've never seen such color in an actual forest.^^
Apart from that, great scene.

it does look a bit sandy, indeed, but it's not at all unusual. I've got this right where I live.

the next one will be even more misty, lighter too, :)

I'm using the Dirt & Soil shader from NWDA, i find it looks kinda plain by default, i did some tweaking to it, hopefully i will see a bit of a difference when the next render is complete.

Nice one!
Looks a lot better and more natural than the first one.

Nice improvement :)
I think the scene needs a little bit more light to make good use of the high GI settings.
The groundcover has very little detail in the shadows for example.
Looking forward to see the next version :)

hmm, to be honest I liked the first version better. The lighting was better and I like that one could clearly see the dirt, which is not the case now. What do you think yourself?

Regards,
Frank

still getting things right...

i dunno, i guess it could be better with some more dirt showing, as long as it does'nt look too plain.

Hard to say. I think I liked best the "first second one" :)

The second one in Reply #14 is the one I like better.
