well i dont exactly know, but i've noticed after you start up TG2 the renderer is always set to Master
seems like the renders with master checked have slightly better detail quality...& slightly longer render time

If you hit the "R" button on the top icon bar the render set to master is the one that renders. I don't think it dose more than that.

If you set up a new default scene which is loaded when Terragen 2 starts, this will set the 'default' render settings. If you change the Master checkbox in the quick render, and uncheck the Master in the Final render; the quick render will be used.

Master is basically used for specifying which renderer will be used by the commandline render calls. There's certainly no difference in quality when Master is checked.

In fact, there's a bit of misunderstanding about the renderer presets in general in the default scene I think, which is that people think there is some actual qualitative difference between Quick Render and Full Render, but there isn't. If you set the Quick Render settings to the same as the Full Render, the results should be essentially identical (I say "essentially" because there are sometimes slight variations from render-to-render, due to variations in random number generation).
