Title: Sunrise over the Red Desert ~ Animation
Post by: cyphyr on April 30, 2010, 06:04:52 AM
Sunrise over the Red Desert (http://vimeo.com/11346448)
Two animations actually, spliced together. The lens flare was rendered out in Lightwave and comped in AE. The Red Desert was rendered to .exr and run through Photomatrix and then over layered on itself in AE to bring out more detail.
Plenty to improve on, not too happy about the motion in the desert part of the anim, and there is considerable "popping" towards the end.
Also Vimeo seems to have over compressed the video.
Enjoy and C & C welcome :)
Richard
ps render time was about 20min a frame for the red desert sequence and between 6 and 12 min for the sunrise sequance.

Apart from the flickering it looks very nice. How long did it take to render the animations?

cyphyr,

Very cool. I didn't notice flickering but, I miss a lot of stuff.

What was the render time on this?

Nice start. I like the color in the sliver of atmosphere at the beginning. The angle at the beginning was a bit jarring though. A shame about the flicker and compression too. Vimeo is capable of very high quality, so I'm not sure why it did this. Maybe if the source video wasn't in a codec it wants to use natively?

We're working on some new settings right now that will help with both GI stability and detail "popping".

Flickr seems to like the H 264-C (?) quicktime codec. Perhaps Vimeo does also.
