I don't care for the clouds much. I can't make up my mind if I like them or not. :-\
the dunes look great but you're right, the clouds look a little strange. Perhaps too sharp and defined?
SteveS
The dunes look fantastically realistic (except for the occasional fractal line), and the clouds would be great if they were a little less defined - maybe reduce edge sharpness and enable a couple of the tweaks in the cloud node.
Yep, the clouds are definitly too sharp. Decrease cloud sharpness and everything is fine! Maybe some stones in the foreground and some lonely grass?
those clouds just look to need lose density and more samples....
the dunes are great, nice detail
Dunes look great.. how did u do em??
The dunes are made with a power fractal v3 with very low roughness and low spike limit. The smaller piles of sand are made by using dave's function terrain with some changed constant values. For the surfacing, I used small but dense fake rocks shader placed before the base colours (the base colours on top of it). Then a surface layer using perlin ridges stretched across the x axis to add the lighter sand.
I've made some changes to the clouds and like what i've got now looking at cropped images. I'll render the complete image tonight and post it here later.
Okay, here's the updated version. This morning when I checked the render I realized that I forgot to regenerate the heightfield in the background. ::) A well, I'll have to do that later. :P I did a little bit of post work with the colors. Enjoy
Much better! I love the clouds, and it looks like you might have modified the dunes or the lighting (for the better) a bit as well.
very nice job :)
first use of the functional dunes by david, incorporated onto a dune ter file and sand done with a multi shader

Nice job with the sand surfacing, but the clouds look a little too flakey in my opinion. I like the little outcrop on the right.
