Title: Drainage Ditch
Post by: MGebhart on May 14, 2010, 10:02:58 AM
I need to render this again because I neglected to run the pipe through PoseRay to smooth it.

Very realistic and great detail. I do however have some problems with scale. Either the bush is tiny or the Ivy leaves are huge!

cyphyr,

You are correct, Sir. I'm fixing this plus adding a shopping cart. I need to figure out how to make a chrome reflective shader. I'm having a problem with this.

I am waiting for the final image  :)

Very cool image Marc.  Try this for the chrome - http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=5341.0 (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=5341.0)

Thanks Ryan,

I'm getting pretty close on my own however, if this last test render looks lame I'll try this shader.

Great details in this scene. Light seems a bit too even and soft though. Maybe lessen the GI effect on surfaces or something?

Great!! I think the facetted look of the pipe doesn't look too bad. I'm not quite sure, but I think sometimes they look like that!?

looking good Marc, did you try these: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8230.msg87715#msg87715 (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8230.msg87715#msg87715)
or find the attached simple chrome shader, just plug it in to your object...have fun

I was going to put a shopping cart in the scene but, the reflection shader was to much. It would have taken about 20 years to render.

For chrome reflections, I simply use a completely black shader(no specular) and follow that shader with a TG reflective shader. Here, keeping reflectivity at '1', use the IOR controls to add more mirror-like reflection, usually an IOR of 3-8(and sometimes higher or lower) gives good chrome results, and quickly.

Thanks D. I'll give it a try.

I like it best without the cart. Will you be working on the fake stones? They need some minor adjustments, I'd say. Maybe an idea: have a water shader + distribution shader attached to the drainage pipe for a remnant or trickle of stagnant water in the pipe.

Also water shader with density volume adjustments to give it that polluted look, you could also possibly play around with the lighting to make it less flat. All in all it's shaping up nicely this scene.
