Title: DROP! Landing on the planet!
Post by: cyphyr on June 01, 2010, 08:12:45 AM
I dont know if I'll be able to take part in the animation contest but if I do this is a starting point.
I'm not that happy about the culumus clouds yet :(
Lots of tweaks to still work on.

The story board is almost complete, I'll post a preview soon. Basically I aim to get from a planetary "macro" shot (as below) down to a "micro" shot of a single drop of water on a leaf.

Do-able ??
We'll see :)

C&C always welcome.

Richard

ps replies to posts will be sporadic for this month till I can tet the £££ for the phone/internet bill :(

That looks pretty awesome. The scales of the mountains are great.

Hmmm I seem to be getting a little carried away with this.
Attached is a storyboard simply rendering out every 100th frame. I'll still supply a six frame storyboaard for the final but there seem to be too many relevant points in the camera path to "just" tell the story with only six frames!

Problems and issues:

I'm a little unsatisfied with the apparent over saturation of some of the sequences; maybe that can be sorted out in post.
The motion blur is not helping! It should be there but it does mean I cant see the detail that I need.
Clouds: Cirrus is fine, happy with that. The Cumulus clouds however, I've had to animate their detail level from 64 up to frame 400 and rising to 256 at frame 800 (ish, I keep changing the precise point)

I'm rendering another storyboard sequence overnight (every 100th frame 0001 to 2001) to include about 400 frames of forrest at the end. I'm also rendering out a very low res full animation to check I'm not hitting any mountains or trees on the way through. I'll post about these over the weekend.

thanks for looking and C&C very welcome.

:)

Looking good. Don't forget, the motion blur will look better in an actual animation, and detail will be more visible with adjacent frames in aggregate.

Looks good - perhaps a little more snow on mountains, since they are so prominent??
