Title: Unable to find valid license key
Post by: GegH on November 02, 2010, 03:44:35 AM
I have followed the instruction and saved the key file i was sent to the correct location, in this case it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Planetside Software\Terragen 2 Deep Edition as it is Windows 7.

No Joy

John Mclusky sent me a new license file. Still no joy

The product is Terragen 2 + Xfrog plants brought last week, yet Johns email says the key file is for Terragen 0.9.
Any ideas of how to get this to work, my client is getting nervous that i can't deliver what was promised.

If the key-file is for Terragen 0.9 then it logically won't work for Terragen 2.

So either you have received the wrong key or perhaps you could try save it in another location:

Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\"   where <username> is the username you have logged on.
Then go to a folder like "Planetside" or "Terragen 2 Deep", I don't know the exact path by heart and I'm not at home right now to check it, but something like that should be there.
In my windows 7 installation TG2 stores the keyfile in this folder.

In any case you can always mail John again I'd say, he responds quickly in my experience.

Thanks for that, however there is no Planetside folder or any of its derivatives in the Application Data folder (or in windows 7 it would be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local, as there is no Documents and Settings in windows 7).

I've tried John again but he seems to have disappeared, i have now got 2 key files for an old version of the software.
Not sure why they would send a key file for an old copy of the software, when it was a new purchase and a new customer who requested the license.

Ah yes I see...well, great you at least figured out what I meant :) too bad it's not there, which makes me think if it's properly installed or that the folder will be created once you've started the software for the first time?
The folder should be there in the path you mentioned.

I can't speak for John of course, but I'd give it some time. Perhaps it's midnight where he lives or what not.

That's the problem, you need the key to start the software, to generate the folders.

If it's the UK, then it is 10:00 in the morning. I'm in New Zealand, but moved from the UK 6 months ago, trying to generate interest in better ways of working. It doesn't look good when you have to wait days just to get the software working.

Very frustrating.

Hi,

I'm in NZ too so I know the time difference with the UK can be tricky. I'll send John a follow up message for you.

Regards,

Jo

You're in NZ? i didn't realise there was an outlet over here. Where are you based?

Hi,

I'm not an outlet, I'm a developer - so more of a studio :-). I live in North Canterbury.

I live in Christchurch. I work as a CAD Trainer and Landscape Architect for a number of Architects and Landscape Architects here. It's good to know there is someone more local than the UK who knows something about this software.
Could i get in touch if i need some help?
I guess you freelance?

Hi,

I have sent a message to person who handles registrations, that's about the best I can do I'm afraid.

Send me an email at jomeder@planetside.co.uk if you like. I have to say that you are most likely to get a useful and intelligent answer to your queries on the forums here, but I will help out if I can. Unfortunately working on TG2 doesn't give me personally a lot of time to really use it, so for detailed help with using it I'm not really the one to speak to. I have a CAD background (used to use MicroStation a lot, also spent time with LT and recently TurboCAD) and I'm very interested in making TG2 usable for architects, landscape architects and the like, so I would be interested to hear any feedback you have.

Regards,

Jo

It sounds like we're coming from the same place.
My specialism is developing CAD systems in the broader sense, CAD being any design software which best enables the designer to convey their ideas.
I have been looking for something that will represent good quality realistic vegetation to use in conjunction with Civil 3D, 3Ds Max, Revit, etc... and this seems like it would do the job well, and at a good job.
Tying these programs together with Terragen will be the interesting bit, especially in a dynamic, fluid professional environment.
I will keep in touch.
