Title: Earth maps
Post by: rolland1013 on June 23, 2011, 04:39:12 PM
Hi all,

I'm pretty new to Terragen 2.  But I have to say that I'm very impressed with what the program can do.  I'm wondering if a data set exists for Earth.  I'm sure this questions has come up and been answered a million times before.  But since I'm new I'm hoping someone will humor me and point me in the right direction

Thanks,
Niel

Try these, the best publicly available maps of the Earth on the Earth... http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/view_set.php?categoryID=2363

The Blue Marble next generation images are the best you're ever going to find, for now. If you need high res' imagery, go for the 21,600x10,800px .tif images. I hope you have memory enough to utilise them.

To map them to a planet node in TG, use a 'spherical' projection in an image map shader, with the same position coord's as the planet you're applying them to. :)
