Title: 80hrs+ down the pan!
Post by: Kevin F on April 07, 2007, 05:08:47 AM
I know this version is only a tech preview and still very buggy but having just lost a render that was 3/4 the way through after 80+hrs due to a crash -"TGD.exe has encountered a problem", is it not possible to have TGD autosave renders at regular intervals? This way it would then be possible to crop render the remaining portion later.
Just a thought.
Kevin.

Neat idea! If TG2 remembers where it was last and render from there it would be perfect.

Did anything get auto-saved to the temp folder under File > Explore Temporary Files menu option (on windows)?

Well, since I had to shut down the PC anything in the temp file was gone.

Actually, I don't think the TG2 temp files are deleted automatically when the computer is shut down; at least they don't seem to on the Mac.  Did you actually check?

It only saves images when the render is stopped, either manually or at completion of a render.

Yeah, Nothing there.

Saving an in-progress render so that it can be resumed later is a difficult thing to implement but it is certainly a well-known requested feature. Simply saving the in-progress render image at regular intervals may be possible, but it's probably not something we can implement soon. We'll definitely consider it for the final release though.

Temp files are only deleted manually. TG2 doesn't delete the temp image files it stores at this point. You may have an automated process setup that clears your Windows temp file when you restart, but that is generalized and outside the realm of TG2's functions.
