Title: Grand Canyon Terrain
Post by: rcallicotte on April 13, 2007, 07:04:03 AM
Here someone put the Grand Canyon together.  I can't verify the perfections or imperfections, but think it's cool to have the whole thing laid out like this - http://www.timster.net/grand_canyon/index_map.html

I have a few of them, Tim O'Donoghue put this site up a long time ago and I'd like to thank him again for it. What really impresses me is the job TG does with these 514m Terrains. The default base color settings really improve the detail.

Huzzzzzah! to Planetside!

If you look in this message, there is a link to the entire canyon in one file - all merged.

site down: :(
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore, `Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven. Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore - Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!'

Quoth the Raven...

You're welcome.  I think this terrain set really shows off the advantages of TG2, allowing some 160km of canyon at 10m resolution in a single TGD.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and get your data direct from the USGS (http://seamless.usgs.gov/website/seamless/viewer.htm (http://seamless.usgs.gov/website/seamless/viewer.htm)). Selecting coordinates to download is a lot easier than merging several tiles together.  They've improved access a lot over the last year. I can occasionally get 12 consecutive connections which is enough to download 2 x 1 degree squares of 10m resolution data.
