Title: Two suns big -Thanks to TheBadger
Post by: Mahnmut on May 30, 2012, 04:08:44 PM
Hi there,
it´s been some time since I posted anything here.
This one is also more than a year old, but I just thought I´d share it.
I didn´t have much time recently as I started working as a doctor, but on top of that my new computer doesn´t cooperate with TG.
Freezes as soon as I open the colour-change menue. but thats not for the image-sharing-section.
I hope you like my sinister little planet, c&c are always welcome.

Excellent render! The red/yellow star especially caught my attention, it looks very nice indeed; though I would think that a star would look like (assuming it's in its prime) a bright ball lacking a lot of detail. Maybe I'm wrong. Oh well, works here, I wouldn't change it simply because how awesome it looks.

Very dramatic render. But I would like to see that bigger!

Whoa, how in the hell did you make that big sun?  Screw realism, that looks awesome!

I would like to know how you got the fire on the sun too. Render or post?

Thanks to your kind replies!
@CatfishEatist: That red sun is not meant to be a star in it´s prime but rather some dying red dwarf or somthing like that.
In terms of Terragen its actually a planet that throws no shadow in front of a sun. There is no postwork on it, I just created a cloud layer and twisted and twisted until it looked like I wanted it.
@ Dune: I don´t own the full version of TG, so I can´t render it bigger than 800x600,
if anyone wants to do that for me I´ll look up the original file.

Just for the ones who missed my productive times:

Now that´s some response!
beside my patients I have guests from abroad at the moment, so I won´t find the time to look for the file this week.
When I find it, I´ll just put it up here. If you find anything useful in it for your own projects, feel free to use it and to give me credit!
I will have to solve that colour-menu- problem.
Best Regards,
Jan

Thank You Jan!

If no one else does it first, Ill render a large image (HD) for you.
Is everything in the file as your image shows? and How long did it take to render at the size you posted? And would you like it to be the same aspect ratio or a cinematic ratio?

I can just put it to render before I go to sleep if it takes a long time. And I can post the image here or e-mail it to you if you like.

Cheers for sharing your methods!

Hi there,
no hurry, I didn´t touch it for a year.
Thats why I cant tell you the rendertime either. But in the 600x800 version it couldn´t have been much more than one hour.
I think the file is the actual one I rendered the image above with.
Feel free to choose an aspect ratio you like, I don´t know what lures behind the rim of my image though.
Just post it here if you like, else tell me.
Thanks,
J

Mahnmut,

Your files ready, but the tiff is way to big to upload here. And the jpg is too big also. I tried reducing by saving for web, but the amount of reduction necessary to make it uploadable reduces quality so much that there is no point.

When you have a moment, select a file host you like and I will upload it there and pm you a link. Or what ever way you like.

image is 2500x1875, rendered in 2 hours. Lots of extra pixels for you if you want to touch it up in photoshop.

Cheers.

Thanks, Badger!
Well, I have not much experience with webspace other than flickr, if you have any suggestions just PM me, the simplest thing I can think of would be to cut the image in four and send them by e-mail, if that´s not asked to much .
Best Regards,
Jan

Hey Jan,

Very sorry! I forgot about this:(

I can send via https://www.wetransfer.com/

Its easy to use and people on this forum say it is a good service. So I would use it because It will require only one e-mail one time vs. breaking the file up.

Please pm me the e-mail you want it sent to.

Sorry again for the delay. I'll do it as soon as I hear from you, promise.
