Title: Cryengine 2

Uhhh, how do they do this?  If this is procedural, we've got to ask what are we doing?  How does it compare to what we're using in TG2TP?  It looks awesome and brings up the question of what is being done behind closed doors elsewhere.  I'm beginning to think TG2 isn't popping up in isolation, where I once believed this was basically a one of a kind program.

they are the creaters of Farcry, and the to be released Crysis, it looks fun, that is being done in DX10.

Cryengine1 is in DirectX9, right?  And Cryengine2 is in DirectX10?

Crysis will be done with the Cryengine1 engine, from what I read.

No, it's CryEngine 2, which is DX9/10 (you can have both).

Trust me.

As long as they remember that gameplay actually is better than graphics (I couldn't be bothered to get much further than half-way through far cry) then they'll have a winner on their hands.

I agree.  Far Cry looked awesome, but I personally didn't like it as well as HL2 or BF2.

Thanks for explaining about this new (awesome and fun looking) engine.

But if the graphics suck, people also complain. I hear this argument all the time, but most people don't actually mean it. Yes, the gameplay has to be good, but if the graphics are bad hardly anyone will play it. (I actually finished far cry :P)

I think it will be good, destructive envirement, smart AI and intresting gameplay (that entire suit thing looks cool) I think they have naouther winner.

Crytek have done amazing things with their realtime engine, particularly with the features in their editor. A large part of their business is centered around providing quality game content creation and editing tools so they have spent a lot of money and time getting this right. Some of the features are particularly interesting such as the realtime volumetric terrain editing. But overall although it is impressive and clearly easy to use (undoubtedly more so than TG2) it is also much less versatile than any of the non-game tools like Terragen, Vue, etc. It does not render "infinitely detailed" displacement and uses tiled, non-procedural textures for most of its visual quality, thus saving a lot of processing time and memory. It also operates on a finite sized area rather than a whole planet. There are many shortcuts taken that make possible what you see in Crysis. Some of it may be applicable to programs like Terragen 2 and you can be sure we're investigating these possibilities. But overall, although it may seem like a case of "why not just do that in TG2 - they've proven it's possible", unfortunately the differences in purpose and functional implementation mean it's not nearly as simple as that.

take a look at Far Cry 2 though, that sets the bar higher it would seem, and thats just looking at the pre-alpha.

I should check that out sometime.  Far Cry was a big graphical step when it came out, I think.
