Title: Terragen 3 Product Lineup and Pricing
Post by: Oshyan on July 11, 2013, 08:32:53 AM
Here at last, full details on the Terragen 3 product lineup and pricing! Click through for details on the feature breakdown between Free, Creative, and Professional, as well as prices for each product version:

http://planetside.co.uk/products/tg3-product-comparison (http://planetside.co.uk/products/tg3-product-comparison)

For many of you, the upgrade pricing will be of greatest interest, and it is not listed on the comparison at this point. A complete price list can be found here: http://planetside.co.uk/buy/tg3-price-list (http://planetside.co.uk/buy/tg3-price-list)

Terragen 2 users will be able to upgrade to Terragen 3 Professional for a special price of $149. This upgrade comes with a single Workstation license and no additional rendering licenses. We're providing this option to allow those who have no need for additional render nodes to upgrade at a lower price. This product variant is not listed on the comparison chart as it is a special offer only for Terragen 2 license owners.

A full upgrade, maintaining the same number of render licenses that you have for your Terragen 2 version, will be $199. If you are upgrading from a non-animation version of Terragen 2 to an animation version of Terragen 3 Professional, the price is $349 and the option to upgrade at a discounted price without additional render licenses is not available. All these upgrade options will be available for purchase on the same day that Terragen 3 is released and available for new purchases.
Those who purchased Terragen 2 following the announcement of Terragen 3 on June 12th will be automatically upgraded to Terragen 3 upon release. Terragen 2 pricing on our website is updated to Terragen 3 prices to reflect this.
As noted in the FAQ, Terragen 3 Creative is not fully an upgrade from Terragen 2 and so we are not offering upgrade pricing for it; for the same price we suggest you purchase the Terragen 3 Professional upgrade and keep all your features and render licenses.

Don't forget to check the FAQ for answers to some of the other questions you may have: http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,16213.0.html (http://www.planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,16213.0.html)
Feel free to ask any additional questions in that thread.

Educational discounts and educational upgrade pricing are available upon direct request. Email us at registrations AT planetside.co.uk for details.

The final release date will be available in the near future. Stay tuned!

Hi Oshyan

Congrats on the new release, this is an awesome update.

Quick question though, I couldn't find upgrade path from TG2 + Deep animation to Professional Animation or TG3 Pro!

Cheers

Sorry for the confusion, the $149/$199 upgrade is applicable both to Terragen 2 without animation upgrading to Terragen 3 Professional without animation, as well as TG2+Animation upgrading to TG3 Pro + Animation. Since the price was the same, I didn't repeat it, but I'll clarify in the bullet points above.

$149 is a great upgrade price for existing customers. As simply a TG hobbiest without a large disposable income that I could chuck at this, I was concerned TG2 was going to bee the last version I was going to use. But $149 is something I feel I can cover so i'm really happy that i'm going to be able to upgrade and keep on playing. Also thanks to Planetside for considering the people who don't use Terragen professionally.

The Vue guys could learn a thing or two about this.

The pricing is just right for me I've just had a lot of roofing problems which are going to cost me rather more than I wanted to spend! So I'm happy I can afford $149 just!

@mhaze and #reck - I agree.  Good upgrades mean I'm staying with it, because I have the $$.  Also agree with reck that the e-On people could learn a thing or two about real customer service from Planetside.  It's unusual to not get real help in these forums.

Will there be any path that goes from Terragen 3 Professional w/o animation to T3 Professional w/ animation (if you go for the one w/o and then decide to upgrade later)?

Fantastic guys.
Just one question, upgrade price is time limited ?
I mean :  upgrade will keep the same price in the next months or it's only for some day after the release ?

Adding animation to either Creative or Professional is a $199 upgrade, i.e. TG3 Creative purchased then animation upgrade purchased, $199 + $199 = $398, vs. $349 buying with Animation to begin with.

Fantastic guys.

This upgrade pricing will be for a limited but reasonable amount of time.

I can see : "Terragen 2 without Animation to Terragen 3 Professional with Animation (1 workstation license + 5 render node licenses): $349"

Is there any path from TG2 without anim to TG3 pro with anim (1 workstation licence only) ?

Prices for the upgrade are very reasonable, thanks for that!

One thing: I saw the announcement on facebook which led me to have a look here but it seems there was nor e-mail sent out yet to those who subscribed? Not that the masses will miss it but I think sending out an e-mail as well would be good.

Again, looking forward to TG3!!

Oshyan, just for clarity's sake - TG2 Deep Animation to TG3 Pro Animation is only $149, correct?  I see $199 with render nodes, but I'm confused about that distinction.  I can still render without the render node, can't I?  What is this node?

With 1 license you are allowed to use Terragen on 1 machine at the same time.

Render nodes probably mean that you can render your scene on multiple machines at once.
Such a machine is called a node and that node is used to render, thus a render node.

I think it's a bit like this in a nutshell, I'm not 100% sure, so Oshyan or somebody else will probably chime in if there's more to it.

One thing is for sure: without additional render nodes, so when only having one TG3 license, you can still render your projects on your machine.

Thanks TU!  This is what I thought.  I don't use render nodes, so I'm good at $149, though maybe I should consider getting a node for another render.  Hmmm.  Something to consider.

That option is not being offered at this time.

Pokoy, we'll certainly be sending out announcements to the past TG2 purchasers, but we wanted to have the release date and upgrade pricing available before doing so.

Rob, Martin is correct, a render node would be used if you had multiple computers and wanted to e.g. render a scene on one system while working on modifications or a different scene on another, or to distribute rendering of say an animation across multiple machines. I personally have 3 machines here and sometimes I am rendering on all 3. That would not be possible with the $149 upgrade as it is just a license for the 1 machine. All TG licenses are for a single *user*, so you could not have TG installed on say 3 machines and have one being used by a colleague to make his own TG stuff while you work on something else. But if you have additional render node licenses you can use multiple machines to render things and distribute the load, get things done faster. It's a feature more of use to professionals which is why we provided the lower-cost upgrade.

Look up a few posts.  I asked the same question.  An extra node is a render capability for another machine besides your main TG machine.

The pre-release is 199,-USD. What about the possibility to buy the update from Terragen 2.5 Animation to Terragen 3 Animation for 149,-USD?
