Title: Index refraction crashed me... But its not the setting.
Post by: TheBadger on August 15, 2013, 08:04:22 PM
Hello

Regarding 2.5

While working to clarify instructions on creating glass in Terragen using a water shader, terragen crashed several times on me.

When increasing the index refraction setting to a high number (relative to default), and then clicking render, terragen crashed.

I am not sure, but it may or may not be the water shader its self...
A possible cause may be clicking render, aborting render, clicking render again, aborting again, and when I click render again there is a crash.

I have noticed this issue at other times too.

Often I need to quickly see the effect of a change in any given setting. It is rarely necessary to allow a test render to finish in order to see what the effect is. So once I can see any slight difference, I will abort the render make a change, and hit render again.

Doing what I described very often leads to crashes.

I have attempted to report this before. But I have only just now zeroed in on the cause. Previously is was not so clear what was happening.

I will be posting the files related to this post as soon as I finish work on clarifying the instructions I posted to make glass. THat post is in one of my making objects for T2 threads.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you Jo.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for that. I'll file a bug about it.

Regards,

Jo
