Title: estimate of costs for animation
Post by: Dune on January 27, 2014, 08:39:10 AM
I know it's not easy, but can anyone give me an price estimate for a 1 minute HD (1080x1920) animation in a render farm? Maybe some of you guys have more experience in this.
Needn't be really photographic, so I don't aim for the highest detail and AA, or soft shadows. It will be an average park landscape with trees, and some water, not even much of a sky (nothing with extensive RT reflectivity and displacements which would take lots of time). I wouldn't know if that would cost me $100 or 10x that....

i just finished a 2000 x 1000 render in 19mn 05sec
Let say we use 30 images par sec it is 1800 images to render.

i test the result with http://www.ranchcomputing.com/terragen-cost_estimator-produit.en.html#cost

By my own : 25 days
Ranch : 2 hours 26mn cost between 322 and 721 € (depending the priority level you choose)

I would say it'll be hard to get a 100 € price on it. Just try to render the first image and use their estimator.

But if i'm not bad there was a 100$ or 100€ credit with them while purchasing TG3, don't know if it still works and how.
That could double your budget if not already used.

Thanks kaedorg. That's a handy solution!

The 100€ offer for TG3 buyers/licence owners is still active.

You need to open a user account on their site, a normal registration, and you have to write a short "general" message to the support including your
Terragen 3 order ID number.

There is also a 50€ trail offer for new users/customers too, unfortunately you can't benefit from both offers, I asked them.
But better 100 TG 3 €'s than 50 €'s for the trail offer..  :P

Don't forget to download all their programs like RanchSync, RANCHpacker and their 2 manuals for a short study.
Not much, but important things to read especially about Terragen and it's file preparation.

Godspeed!

Alex

Thanks Alex. I know quite enough now, just have to do some tests on my own machine and then get an estimate. The credit is helpful as well.

That is not true:

TG3, 1800 Frames, 50min per Frame on Core i7 (=25 Days on PC) cost on garagefarm.net  with lowest priority: $151 = 110 € 8) and now your turn...

Thanks snowflake

I didn't know this farm and i try their calculator. I must admit that as low priority, there are cheaper.

Good to know. Thanks again
