Title: Creating a cloud 'blanket'
Post by: AC5LT43R on May 20, 2014, 03:46:05 AM
Hi guys,

I'm looking to create something like this:

and so far I've not been able to get the variation and distinctive look you see in the picture.. Rather just a flat-ish boring looking blanket. The clouds are also dull and grey, even with the colour set to pure white.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Post the results you're getting, ideally with a TGD, and someone should be able to help you. If you look at those clouds in your reference picture and actually sample the color values, there's a *lot* of "dull and grey" actually. Perhaps it's the contrast you're referring to? That's mostly caused by the lighting and cloud shapes in this case...

Check out this thread I posted.

I tried something similar, not exactly the same but I think it might be helpful for your application
Good Luck!

If it's still ongoing, the cloud layer's lighting > sun glow parameters will sort out dull, matte blanket clouds.
