Title: Tundra prairie
Post by: Cocateho on December 11, 2014, 09:20:39 PM
A bit Skyrim inspired, for those who play, that was the type of tundra look I was going for. Mostly playing with the built in grass clumps and terrain. I think it has some potential to do something with it, just not sure what... which seems to happen a lot here lately.

Also, it was rendering pretty quickly in tests so it also became a bit of a test when it come to cranking up the quality. Detail was 2.1, AA 9. I think it took somewhere around 6-7 hours, pretty good considering.

It looks interesting, I especially like the erosion of the rocks. But detail 2.1? I'd say detail of 0.8 would be good enough, and much quicker.

I never go above 1! Very nice image I like the colour and the eroded rocks. Have you tried different sizes for the trees they seem a little small.

Usually I stay around 1 for detail , but since for whatever reason this one was rendering really quickly I decided to crank it up out of curiosity. It definitely adds crispness but not like upping resolution would. The trees I kept small for a more stunted appearance, though they look too manicured and round to be in a cold, windy tundra. They could maybe use more variation, possibly a grove of taller trees somewhere.

Nice image but the trees are all wrong for both tundra and prairie. This is more foothills of some mountain range. Just being a nit picker today for some reason....but as I said, very nice image all the same. Correction, not all wrong as evergreen trees do grow in the tundra, just smaller;  but it needs some scruffy bushes and smaller leafy trees.

...and maybe a little more randomness and clumping in the distribution of the trees. I have no idea which trees would be the correct ones, but I agree that these look somehow too perfect.
Otherwise beautiful image. The terrain looks great.
