Title: 3 Dual Core PCs in the room = Perfect Room HEATER!
Post by: moodflow on August 24, 2007, 10:45:48 AM
I bought 2 Dell optiplex's (3.0 GHz Dual core) about a month ago for a personal "render farm".  They work great, but leaving those on for those multi-day renders, plus using my regular powerhouse PC makes the room go into the low 90's temperature wise!  Its nuts!  Luckily, I'll start the room's A/C unit a few hours before I know I'll be in there to get a head start, but always end up sweating.  Atleast it drops the RH to manageable levels.  Its a dry heat, LOL  ;D

Waiting for winter again!

Sounds a bit like my office at work. a server, 2 PCs and 3 printers (plus more spare parts than I can shake a stick at :) ) All this is topped off by the fact that the building is totally glass fronted and gets the sun for 3/4 of the day. In the summer the sweat is dripping off me, and I'm only sitting at a keyboard. We also don't have the luxuary of air con  >:( which is a bit of a bummer. All we can do is to open the window, so that the hot air outside mingles with the hot air inside giving..... yep you guessed it... moving hot air instead of still hot air  :'(

Ugh, sounds like a pretty awkward place to work.  Nice setup, moodflow - are you planning to run any animations on those beasties anytime soon?

Mr Miley:  Youch!  That sounds like an oven over there.  My office (at my real job) is the same in the summer, though likely not as hot, but still hits 80+ and I work 12 hour shifts wearing business casual.  Its also a cubicle farm, doing exactly the opposite of what I had planned for my life!  I still can't find any open positions for "professional landscape renderer", so I am stuck doing help desk work...for life.

Old Blaggard:  Absolutely on the anim, though I am still in research mode at this point (and waiting for some more optimizations and multi-core support).

Ahhh Moodflow, I know exactly what you mean... I'm an Ilustrator by training, not quite sure how I ended up working for a geotechnical company ???

LOL  This reminds me of the last company I worked for...  ::)

10 CAD Workstations and 4 Printers in only one room....   the attic....

and the best --  the only air con was in the server room  >:(

LOL, that sounds about right, don't forget, we are only employees, easily replaceable and thoroughly expendable, not like the hardware....  ;D

try playing Heavenly Sword in that room......you have to be very fast button masher to perform a combo.....most of the times I sweat just from pressing buttons and trying to perform a killer combo.....:D

Well its safe to say that "rendering weather" is back.  The past few days have been perfect for rendering...

I know it sounds weird, but true.

I can imagine a weather person on TV:  "today is looking like a great day for rendering..."
