Title: Unfinished business (Waterfall)
Post by: René on May 08, 2017, 02:17:01 PM
I have accumulated a lot of unfinished work in recent years. The reason for this is that my previous computer could not handle it or because it was too complicated, and sometimes because I lost interest. So the next few days I'll post a selection of experiments and works in progress.

Waterfall.

These waterfalls are great. Number 12, 55 and 28 are my favourites.

Thanks for posting these works. Impressive, and they remind me of my own experiments with water. I see some of the issues I came across myself, and which are pretty hard to conquer, but overall they are really great.

Long rendering times are the biggest obstacle, and therefore I did not continue these experiments. I'm sure that realistic waterfalls would be within reach with a much faster computer.

I very like n.55. Very nice and surely very difficult to achieve!

Very impressive. The last 4 seem closest but all are missing the mist that accompanies waterfalls...that may be all that is needed...hope you get a faster computer and that it isn't as much hassle as my recent acquisition experience was.

Great work. I especially like the rainy road (except for the dark line of veggies maybe), it's very good and a nice inspiration. Water tests must have taken ages to render, I like those too.

Since the rainy road is a WIP, I would mask the reflective highlights with a distance shader, so they're off that hill.

Wow... as all others say: Some really cool water images!

My favorite is the wet road, too.

Yes the water test took very long to render so that's something to pursue in the future.

The reflection on the hill has to go. I could't get rid of the band of dark vegetations in the distance, don't know yet what's causing it. :)

Gorgeous!! Shouldn't there be a car on your rainy road that causes the red light reflections? Otherwise superbe!!
And the ice on your Discovery surface is really excellent!

Fantastic work - like you I abandoned work on waterfalls but I now have a powerful computer and your images have inspired me to have another go.

There is a car, I just disabled it to speed up rendering. :)

There is a lot of great work here! I *especially* love the rainy road and discovery images, as well as the mountain. Those stalactites in the last one are also really good!

You've got a lot of work and thought put into those. I really like the lighting and texturing effects you managed to get, e.g. in the snowy mountains and icebergs. I hope you'll keep posting stuff HERE!

Thanks Oshyan. The advantage of re-viewing these images after a while is that the flaws are immediately clear.
The stalactites for instance are unlikely to get in the final version because they are the result of melting while nothing melts in this environment.
