Title: Problem with the crater shader
Post by: Avhaz on December 30, 2006, 10:21:23 AM
Every time I try to render a crater, if I have atmosphere enabled it just turns a black hole on the planet, what am I doing wrong here? ??? I'll attach a fast render of it.

Does this also happen with smaller/default craters? It may be that you are simply trying to make it too large or using some other extreme setting.

Well, it only seems to happen with big craters like that with the camera high above the planet.

Most likely it's a bug or simple limitation then. I would say in general that the crater shader wasn't designed to work on that large a scale. It may be extended or improved to do so in the future however. In the meantime you could simply create a crater image bump/displacement map (or fine one online) and apply it as an image map displacement to your planet. That should create a similar effect successfully.
