Title: Original Download?
Post by: winnypif on March 28, 2018, 11:12:20 AM
I am very, very new to this program. Terragen in general, to be specific. I love designing terrains for this game I play, and recently found I could use Terragen to create such maps. However, there is only ONE tutorial for this entire idea, and it takes place on a much older version of Terragen. I have no clue how to translate the versions between each other, and I'm so confused. I really want to do this, but it seems some features and options are missing that they list in the tutorial, so I'm a bit lost. This is the tutorial - https://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=5981.0
Is there maybe an older version download available?

Welcome to this forum, first of all. Check this page out; lots of tutorials to be found: https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/board,6.0.html (https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/board,6.0.html)

That's a tutorial for a very old and no longer supported version of Terragen. It is basically completely different (and far less capable than current Terragen), so it's probably best to just ignore that tutorial.
For current versions of Terragen we recommend the GeekAtPlay video tutorials:
http://www.geekatplay.com/terragen-tutorials.php

Dune, that's an outdated link. We prefer the Wiki now. Documentation for more recent versions is here:

A few resources are being updated (the "first scene" tutorial for example). But the GeekAtPlay content fills in for that well.

Sorry about that, I actually never look there.

Me either. Most I use the wiki for is documentation on shaders.

Curious question, though, what happened to TG Classic? Last I heard it was going to be released without license as-is to play with free? I believe I recall a download page at some point but didn't have a computer that wasn't just a SoC on a stick.

Not sure where you heard that, to my knowledge we did not announce plans to release Classic for free. TG Classic just got old/outdated, just as people no longer use Bryce 1.0, or Vue 2, or 3DS Max v4, or heck, Alias Wavefront Maya 7. ;)
