Title: Getting heightfid to warp around planet
Post by: surrealdan on May 01, 2018, 06:08:01 PM
Hi,

Trying to get some crater heightfields to wrap around the planet object. Since my my scene camera is pretty much locked, don't have much flexibility. When I try to translate beyond 10'000 meters it seems to float off into space. Is there a better way around this problem? Thanks for any help!

Best,
Daniel

See this discussion (https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,24203.0.html) I recently had with Oshyan. Very informative on how people are wrapping planets. Though I was not able to get this to work properly and gave up, maybe someone can explain further here.

If the Displacement Direction (displacement tab) is "Normal" rather than "Vertical (normal in geometry)", it should work elsewhere on the planet, though note that the *bounding boxes* will not appear correct relative to the planet surface. But there comes a point of larger scales where using a heightfield rather than image projection makes less sense.
