Title: To all the PRO's out there in the field
Post by: dhavalmistry on October 02, 2007, 07:06:07 PM
Hi, I wanted to ask a question to all the people who are working for an animation company. By the end of next month I have to decide whether I want to go into 3d animation or Visual effects. I was wondering if it would be better to go into 3d animation first and then take visual effects after or should I jump directly to visual effects. I also wanted to know what type of job I would get if I jumped straight to visual effects. Does visual effects require as much drawing as 3d animation?

well....

I personally am planning to use my new deep version to create commercial Animations with sone friends...

If you want to go into 3D animation...what i would suggest..(since your already great at TG 2!) Is start trying out making Models in things like 3D Max ect.....As these things of will need to be added to TG for the animations....

I personallly have no idea about visual effects though....for now im just sticking with 3D Animations ;)

With visual effects you mean effects like water anim, explosions and stuff like that?

If I were you I would apply for internships at Digital Domain, ILM, etc.  I haven't got any experience in visual effects, but it would seem to me that 3D animation and visual effects would go hand in hand, and being competent in both would be good.

On their websites they have ways for you to apply for internships yourself.  See http://www.ilm.com/ and http://digitaldomain.com/.
