Title: My scene won't render
Post by: sjefen on October 07, 2007, 06:35:38 PM
I'm having some troubles rendering my scene. It finishes the GI pass, but only last a few secons or minutes on the final pass. I have been trying four times now, but the same thing keeps happening.
It's not even a heavy scene. I have made things that requires a lot more.

Can you post a tgd?

I noticed objects in there... RAM/VM usage ??? A mis-placed decimal in a population?

Last time I had guaranteed crashes was plugging an image map shader into a population "use density shader" and I had forgot to set the projection to Y. Also lots of reflective surfaces seem to be a problem.

I think I have discovered the problem. I have turned of the soft shadows on the sun and it seems to render now. The sun is at a very low altitude. Maybe Terragen don't like that combination?

It would be useful to see the TGD for this one if soft shadows seem to be an issue. As you know this is a new feature and there may still be some bugs in it that need to be addressed. If you prefer you can send it privately to the support address support AT planetside.co.uk.

Thanks!

I think I have to send it to you guys if you need the exact same scene. It has some objects and stuff so it will be to big to upload her

Sending it via email is fine. We would definitely appreciate seeing it, especially if it appears to be a problem with soft shadows specifically.

Yes, exactly. The idea with spelling it out that way is to avoid spam. Spam bots often search forums for valid email addresses. ;)

Alright. Should I remove it then?

No, it's alright. Just something to keep in mind for the future. People use lots of substitutions, some more confusing than others, e.g. oshyan @ planetside (just putting in spaces), or using AT instead of @, or using underscores, etc.
