The update should work fine in Vista. What specific problem are you having? Are you not able to download the update at all? Does it simply not install?

Did you completely uninstall the previous version before installing the new? Can you check the file size of the .msi you're using to install? You should use the value shown by right-clicking the file and going to Properties, then in the Size (not Size on Disk) area. The free version should be 3,260,416 bytes while Deep should be 3,258,880 bytes. If your sizes are different you should re-download until you get the right size then try reinstalling. Remember to uninstall the old version first. You may also want to try running with Administrator privileges if you have not already done so (right-click the shortcut for options).

Yes, I had already uninstalled the previous version. The update I downloaded has a size of 3.260.416 bytes. bytes. I'll have to find out what you mean by Administrator priviliges, though...

I'm not sure if this problem remains on Vista, but I also recall the Microsoft Installer application running into some issues at times with installations that got corrupted, never finished, or just had old temporary files hanging around. Often times one installer would create the problem but it wouldn't show up until the *next* program you installed and thus it would appear to be this next program, but was actually caused earlier by another install.

In any case as I said I'm not sure this still applies to Vista (shame on Microsoft is that issue is still not fixed!), but if possible you might try updating the Microsoft Installer and/or clear out temp files before install.

I would like to mention another issue I have run into using Windows Vista Ultimate. During a period from late August through early September, I had received several security updates from Microsoft. Shortly after this, I could no longer find .bmp and .jpg files in Terragen 2. I discovered this when trying to e-mail a friend with a .jpg image I created with Terragen 2. I suggest two different remedies that will get you to the files you've created with Terragen 2 should you run into the problems that I did. These remedies are as follows:

Windows Vista Security Upgrade – Its effect on Graphic Files
[/center]

September 2007

A few weeks ago (early September 2007), I received an automatic security upgrade from Microsoft. Shortly thereafter, while trying to e-mail a Terragen 2 (.jpg) image to a friend, I opened Terragen 2 and could not find the image in the appropriate folder. This is strange since I always have been able to do this in the past. I noted that the original .bmp file was missing also.  Initially, I had opened the .bmp file of this image in Photoshop to convert it into a .jpg.
I then opened Photoshop and noticed that the .jpg image was labeled as a 'shortcut' (as was the .bmp file). I clicked on it and it gave an option to 'Fix It'. I clicked on Fix It and it opened the image up in 'Windows Photo Gallery'.
Perplexed by all of this I called upon a friend who has had much experience with Microsoft file systems. He analyzed the problems and came up with two work-around solutions – one requires a lot more clicks to achieve results; the other, is much easier to work with but requires some initial duplicating of Terragen 2 files; as follows:

Solution 1

•   Click and follow > C > Users > (your administrator name) > AppData > Local > VirtualStore > Programs > Planetside > etc., etc. Here you will find your saved .bmp or .jpg Terragen 2 file.

Solution 2

•   After creating a duplicate of the Terragen 2 files create a folder labeled 'Terragen 2 Files' and place it in 'Documents'. Then, in the future, when you need to access your .bmp and .jpg files, all you need to do is click on Documents that is displayed on the Windows Vista dialog box that appears in Terragen 2 when you click >File >Open.
I am sure that Microsoft had our best interest at heart when they made this security upgrade; however, I feel certain that there will be many like myself who will find this change very upsetting!

Credit for these remedies goes to Mr. Nick Fox ...a computer software/hardware genius.
