Title: Saturday's play
Post by: Dune on August 11, 2018, 10:28:14 AM
Just playing....  ;)

Cool! How did you do the swirly smoke?

Just a SSS masked small smoke area, warped in X and Z. I used a derivate (color adjusted) without the warp for the firey exhaust, plugged into direct color, with an altitude restraint.

Lovely work!
But what is that smoking thing? An elevator?

Just Dr. Who working on earlier iterations of the Tardis.

Yes, an elevator. I made it for fun for the VR contest (can't remember when that was.............).

great image, makes me think of Arthur C Clarke's 'space elevator' for some reason. His way of getting to orbit without giant rockets IIRC

I figured this was to Doc Charly's skyway. ;D Nice rocks too!

Another test, tree this time. ST tree and added pieces of bark in ZB as a first experiment.

EDIT: refined bark parts

Exactly my thoughts too :)
Great Ulco!

And nice bark experiments too. ... I must say the clock near the neandertal man tells me that I seem to have bad influence on you ;)

The last tree is getting there.
A 'transition - zone' from bark to no bark would be a nice addition.
Keep it up.

What do you mean by transition zone? Small remains or so?
Title: Re: Saturday's play

I could imagine he means frayed areas and dirt particles in the area of the tree bark edges.

Before I forget I have to pay tribute to the additional details like romans, busses, dancers... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

This last one is hilarious! Make something melt, and you have your own Dali image. ;D ;D ;D

I thought about cramming the whole area with LOTs of objects, but could restrain myself  :P

Yes, frays and stuff. There are ways to add those (nanomesh, or so), but I'm not sure if I will put very much more effort into it.

Great tree!
I hate to ask, but are your stone ruins cubes? Very practical fire on that pole btw!  :)

No, the ruin is an object I made. But it could well have been cubes, indeed.

I'm late, sorry.
By 'transition - zone' I meant areas where the outer part of the bark is already gone,
but the softer, inner (brownish) stuff is still attached to the trunk.
Should be quickly doable with a little sculpting and texturing, mostly texturing, I think.

Damn primitives and their ray guns.

@ Jochen; well, it should be easy, but the texturing is still from the speedtree trunk, so tiled and not within one texture space. So I can't use that, unless I re-UV, and I'd rather not, as ST does a nice job with the transitions trunk to branches.
I may think of a way though. Good to know what you mean, thanks.
