Another WIP I'm working on.
I want the mountains to have sharper edges, so I'm still working on that.
Mountain is created with Gaea.
- Terje
This could be a photo, and I could not tell the difference - magnificent!
Gorgeous !! 8)
I have a little attention on the deer. Have a feeling that it is a bit big compare to the surroundings?
Otherwise getting interested in Gaea...

I agree about the deer. Didn't have enough time to test before I had to
go to work, so I just hit the render button and hoped for the best ;D

Okay. How big is the learning curve to get a mountain created in Gaea?
This looks great! Very photo-realistic.
Some C&C:
- Maybe it's just me but the scene seems a little warm.
- Are you mimicking over-exposure? The water and reflections seem to convey this.
Nice to see this full size, exception start that's for sure.
Very realistic. Agree about the deer, 1/4 size will do I guess.

I would say you are able to create mountains in Gaea in just minutes. It's very intuitive and user friendly. I believe there's a free version out now with some resolution restrictions. You should check it out ;)

It will look different in the next update ;)

Very nice work!
Looking forward to the next version... so I don't say anything about the deer's size... again... ;D
just... wow :o
Snow is AWESOME!
Can you make snow patches on just the "North" faces?
Re: deer, I think it's actually the trees that are too small. The deer seems right scale for the rocks and water.
This render is worth studying. Thanks,
Russ

I'm not sure what you're asking?
The snow is a mask from Gaea.

Testing different stuff...
- Terje
Well, it still looks fantastic! (oh, deer - where are you?)
Both pictures are looking really impressive, I'm downloading Gaea now and will have a closer look on it!
Question, did you render the pictures in Terragen or did you use GAEA to render them?

Another beauty!
Lovely work.
Fantastic, Terje! The only crit from me is, the water looks a bit too rough to my eyes. Makes it look a bit out of scale. Otherwise incredibly photoreal.
Same from me! An almost photorealistic and beautiful scene.
Perhaps a little work on the water as Hannes said. The waves in the foreground seem really a bit big for the general scale but I like the distribution of windless parts on the lake surface.

Hehe! I removed it for now. Used it not to long ago in a another scene anyway. Who knows, it may reappear ;)

I don't think Gaea has the ability to render. Only to preview the terrain, so I'm using Terragen for rendering.
I'll work some more on the water, but I usually get some strange reflection patterns if the wave scale is too small.
I'll also work some more on the shorelines.
- Terje
I think I prefer the 2nd version. The color is more realistic, less garish. The violet shadows in the first one in particular seemed odd to me. I also agree the water seems a bit rough. But otherwise it's a gorgeous image!

I was just wondering if(hoping that) there is a way to put snow patches on the shady side of the mountain. That's the Northside for us in the Northern hemisphere.
Keep on the good work,
Russ
There is a way, Russ, but it's not perfect. I would like to have an 'angle shader' that can be softened to cover a whole mountain side, instead of all tiny sides within, say, a northern slope. The latter can be obtained by using a 'get normal (in texture)' and a 'convert blue' or 'red to scalar'. Adding a 'rotate Y vector' for , well, rotation of that normal.
Another update...
- Terje
what an update! Great looking scene. Two thumbs up man. ;)
Some how the church seems out of place to me, but still a lovely render.
I have tweeted it. I hope you don't mind!
Awesome
Gorgeous image indeed! The church architecture (mainly the tower, I guess) somehow does not seem quite right for the area, in my mind. But the rest of the building works. Seems a bit nit-picky, but hopefully it's a helpful comment. :D
- Oshyan
Wonderful light and scenery. Love the crispness of it. But I agree about the church. I think a smaller, partly hidden building in between the trees might look better. Maybe even a ruin or so.
Maybe the others are right, but why not... maybe the client and architect were idiosyncratic :)
Just lovely ambience!
Thanks guys.
I'll see what I can do about the building, but I'm limited by free or paid models from the web. I haven't got the time to learn blender now, but I really wanna learn it so I can create modern houses and put it in some Terragen scenes. I just love those modern houses in nature renders I see people make in other software's and want to do something like that with Terragen. If someone wants to collaborate on a project with me, just let me know. I think that would be an awesome experience :)

I also love those renders and planned one some time ago but never started yet. What collaboration you thinking of? I can do basic modelling and texturing in Blender.

If you could model a modern house and do some basic texturing, I'd like to import it to Terragen and see what results I'm able to get. I'm very curious to how such a render would be if rendered with Terragen. I will of course also share the entire scene from Terragen with you once it's done.

Alright, let's do it. Will do some basic shapes today/tomorrow and will send it to you for some basic testing to see how it goes with TG and to which direction we should go in terms of details...etc.
Sounds awesome!
Just know that I'll have to do this in my spare time :)
- Terje
Beautiful rendering. I like the church . . . reminds me of St. Clements in the Hebrides (though the hills there are more modest):
Could be a bit more aged and "worn down" – not ruins, but not new, either.

No worry, same here. Here is a draft that u can see. (No textures this time.) We can take if from here. Give me an email so next time I will send it to that address.

you could try this feller's models. The need some PoseRay work to get rid of the parts like flora and the terrain but they are fully textured

This is really splendid !
Did you succeed in using the mesher export to import the terrain into Terragen ? Each time I try, the mesh obj doesn't appear in the window. I think here you are using the heightfield load ?
David.
I used heightfield load, yes.
