Title: PT only renders spotlight in crop, bug?
Post by: Dune on May 17, 2019, 01:32:40 AM
I came across an annoying problem; when rendering the whole scene or a larger crop, the light off a spotlight is not rendering, whilst it does render correctly when decreasing the crop.

Default PT render. The spotlight angle has been enlarged to outer 180º and inner 170º and is located just off the 'logs' in the fire, turned upwards of course, spotlight soft shadows @ 1, not illuminating atmosphere, rest is default. There's another lightsource for the glow in the smoke, and surroundings.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Found the culprit, so forget about my question. Moving the spotlight 1cm up did the trick. Apparently the terrain isn't calculated as precise in a crop render, so the light emitting spot was 'free', whilst it wasn't when doing the whole render.
I forgot to set the spotlight's size  >:(

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense. Yes, any terrain outside of the crop area will be less accurate, depending on how you set the "Ray Detail Region".
