...to create 3D objects? What is the available software? I have never explored this territory yet. :-[
I don't need anything "fancy". All I require is to be able to model and texture some decent-looking buildings / houses for use in future projects. You know, so I don't have to purchase models each time I do something...
What would you recommend?
The most obvious suggestion I guess is to go for Blender.
It's free, there's tons of tutorials/info on it and an active community.
Blender is free (and the latest version is way more user friendly) and VERY extensive in it's abilities.
Also check out Hexagon, part of the Daz ecosystem. Also Free and comes with integration to a whole bunch of content
Suggest Blender. it's open source, incredibly powerful and there are tons of forums and tutorials out there for understanding how things work.
Then Blender it is. :)
I already tried to shear and cut a simple cube to make roof shapes for a house and I am pleased with the tools at hand. Offers a lot of flexibility without any trade offs.
If you want to learn modelling then this youtube channel (Arrimus3D) is gold:

Weeell, I just need some decent houses and buildings, that's all. But I think I'll have a look. :)
Another open-source free modeler is Wing3D:

I know this is a pretty old topic, but maybe someone will find it useful.
The typical answer to the question about 3D modeling software is of course Blender. Its main advantages are that it is free, has a huge number of communities and forums, YouTube is full of video guides and channels about it. The two main drawbacks in my opinion are the difficulty of learning and it is not specialized. For example, Zbrush (https://pixologic.com) has way more sculpting abilities than Blender. Or Daz Studio (https://www.daz3d.com) is a better tool for quick and easy projects. More information can be found in various reviews, such as this (https://www.artec3d.com/learning-center/best-3d-modeling-software) one.
