Title: refraction of light in water
Post by: gasbutan on October 30, 2019, 05:16:13 PM
Hi,

I used Vue before and there I was able to get some nice water effects like this:

Does anyone know how to manage this in Terragen ?

Thx

Refraction is handled properly by the Water and Glass Shader nodes, but you will need to increase Ray Detail Multiplier in Subdiv Settings (in the Render node) if you want high detail in really clear water like that.

Thanks for the hint. You're right. The ray detail multiplier was too low.

Glad that helped. To get detail underwater that is the same as the normal detail above water, you need to set it to 1 (then the multiplier is 1, so it is equal to the main detail, whereas with the default it is at 1/4, 0.25, of main). This is an optimization because very often water is rough enough that you don't really notice any lack of detail and it saves render time. But in some cases like this you need that extra detail.
