I didn't know what the deal was with the tripods until I Googled about it. I discovered a BBC War of the Worlds made last year so I guess this is what it is based on. Apparently the legs don't mechanically support the machine because there are times when one leg is lifted into the air for a long time and it just hovers there with no apparent means of support.
