Title: Is it possible to have multiple 3D windows open at the same time?
Post by: Shield Wulf on April 22, 2020, 10:45:33 PM
Hey Everyone...

Hope everyone is doing well in this time of being shut indoors. I have hopefully a quick question.  :) :) :) :) :)

Is it possible to have multiple 3d preview windows open at the same time. Say one showing a "perspective view" and the other one showing a "side" or "top view"? And here's the kicker when you move to another location in one scene the other 3d preview window will update to that NEW position as well. I checked the groups and didn't see a hint for this. Maybe I just missed it.

Thanks for your help in the past present and future, I only hope that one day I will obtain a high enough level of knowledge with TG that I too may be of help to someone new like me.

No. Sadly not anymore.
In the days before the RTP made its way into Terragen you could have a 3D Preview / 3D View open as a new separate window.
That functionality was dropped because it somehow did not work with the RTP mechanisms. And it sadly never returned.
It was my preferred way of working back then.

Hi KlausK,

Thanks for the response. Yeah that would of been my preferred way of working as well.  Of course I am not a programmer but I wonder why such a good thing like this was dropped from the code? Maybe they can put it back in if we ask nicely. TG developers would it be that hard to put this functionality back in place. Or can we have access to older versions of TG without the RTP functionality? Just asking that's all. Please help me understand that's all. I like to understand things if possible.

Thanks,
Randy

Would be cool to have this back and just pause all other handles if in RTP.

There is a workaround:

Right-click on the node view and select "Open in New Window."
In the new View Window select View > Open New 3D Preview in Tab.

I use this occasionally for an additional top view while placing objects. Never had a problem. Not sure Matt would recommend it, however, and I'd avoid running RTP in any of the 3D views.

Now that's clever!! Cool! Thanks for the tip, Steve!

Wow, thank you a bunch!

But it would be great with a "top view" along side the 3D preview or something.
