I've updated this post as I thought the filesize was smaller, but it is actually still larger, and I was looking at the wrong source file. However, this method still works for exporting better normals than TG.
What you do is instead of just recalculating normals, you first weld the vertices at the smaller tolerance scale possible. Then you can recalculate normals. You'll get a substantially smoother look than before.
