Title: Georeferenced heightmap with sat. image overlay?
Post by: DreamSkywards on October 19, 2020, 09:23:29 AM
Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I have been trying to read everything I can about the subjects of this topic but I'm kinda lost in an ocean of information, and nothing seems to be able to answer my query.
In Blender for example, someone created a plugin that will pick up not only Google's sat imagery, but also accurate DEM data. You can see the shadows on this screenshot.

Is there a more straightforward way to do that in Terragen? I seem to be able to find Georeferenced heightmaps for the continental U.S, but not much for Europe.

(This is Geneva, Switzerland. What I would need in Terragen is the big, obvious mountain chain extending from North to South, along with the flat plain with the visible airport.)

Thank you for any guidance, suggestions.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you have access to a program like GeoMapper you can load both Geo-referenced Heightmaps and Satellite imagery and export matched GeoTiffs (heightMap) and Clour Maps.

Also, you should be able to use the "Geog image map shader" to load geo referenced Satelite imagery.

For high-resolution Satelite imagery, you may want to look at Terra Incognita 2.

Hope this helps

Thanks, appreciate the answer.
Any chances you might have more resources?

It's unfortunate Terragen can't do it directly like Vue does.
