Title: [Req] Image Map Shader - Filters
Post by: WAS on January 31, 2021, 05:22:21 PM
It would be super handy if TG had some rudimentary raster filters to apply to image maps like guassian blur, and sharpen. They could really help. Like let's say we are doing a farm, and we have a river map, we could easily duplicate the image map, apply guassian blur, and use the scalar of your river map as it's displacement or different masks, and utilize the hard map for boundary masking, without inflating the project assets. Such as another huge TIFF/PNG.

Would be handy indeed. I often start out with slightly blurred version for some maps, and apply hardening in TG.

Yeah that's what I had to do with some tests. I do notice that if you aren't big (even 10224 seemed too small) gassian effect saved to file is pretty bad for any disp. Least on the small paths I had. Looked very banded.

I do feel I need to hookup the Cintiq so I can see what I'm drawing right. 4K ultrawide makes relating the barely rectangle pad to the giant ultrawide screen very weird. Any horizontal stroke is 2x as fast as Vertical, so... yeah...

Yes. I've often wished for a blur filter.

Not sure if it's possible, but if we just had a hook for filters in image maps to load 8bf files, we could do a lot just loading filters. These are not exclusive to Photoshop, and I have seen many programs use them. Like IrfanView.

Maybe one day....
Sometimes I make another PS blurred version of a specific map in grey, but much larger. Not very heavy then. Fields don't need big maps, but paths usually do. Streams can have an extra blurred version, if only to use for shore vegation, or to warp as erosion.
