It has been a long time coming! CYAN EYED is finally available online here:
Over seven years in the making with a crew of over 100 people including the geniuses from Skywalker Sound, I am happy to finally have everyone watch it! All the background environments (landscape and sky) are made and rendered in Terragen.
Also some good news as the film has just started its festival run, yesterday it won Best Short Film in the Australian Effects and Animation Festival Awards (an international award competition):

Awesome! I'll give this a share.
I'll let you know what I think. Glad this is finally happening.
Congratulations! I just saw the gallery with some stunning images. Also the artwork and the characters are terrific. Looking forward to see this!
I really enjoyed it. It's a great representation of steampunk how I envision a world in it to be, right down to some of the mysterious bits like "how on earth does that function". The metallics also look so great in motion. Without giving away the story, it's also really good for a short story glimpse of a bigger picture.
Thanks for the kind comments. About the whole "how does that function" part, I can say that I spent a lot of time in making sure that all of the parts would have worked with no 'cheating'. For example, the robot's body has no single piece geometry that passes through another or becomes hidden or unhidden, even during the 'transformation' shot. It took a while to solve (I treated that task as a puzzle), but it was worth it I think.
And yes, there is a bigger picture. I have developed a back story for the pirate and a feature that picks up at the end of the short, some of which can be seen here:

Thanks for watching!
I should have been more clear, I meant the energy weapons aspect. It works, and makes sense that it works, but what is it? I immediately think: what is this energy? What capacity is it charged to? That jet back is so industrial; is that literal steam? Is it a monopropellant?
That sorta stuff. My mind always thinks of realistic explanations. I love this stuff.
What a great little masterpiece!

May I ask what software additional to Terragen was used?

Built in 3DS Max, and rendered with Corona. Substance painter for most of the textures, Marvelous Designer for cloth sims and Ornatrix for hair. Comped in Nuke, and edited with Resolve.
Great work indeed. You not only have great talent but also outstanding patience!
Just saw the whole animation. One word: FANTASTIC!
This is really something! Great work!
Thanks for the great comments :D
Absolutely epic! The Terragen work is top notch and so seamlessly integrated
Hey everyone, it has been a while, but I am happy to report that Cyan Eyed was recently released on the Dust Youtube channel, and in two months has now gathered

Oh wow, that's great to hear! Congratulations on all the exposure! I didn't even realize it was added yet (thought I had notifications on). I just watched this again a few days ago. I stumbled upon some older topics from you about it and had me freshly intrigued again.
It is so great, with all the fine detail, it's no wonder it's being watched so often. Masterful work!
Absolutely amazing! Congratulations!
