Very nice!  Do I see reflections on those stones?  If so, it must have taken quite a while for them to render.

Ooooh.  Nice art.  I love this.  Keep going.   ;D

How did you make the cave?  Did you utilize nikita's TGD?

i didn't use his tgd but i used 2 heightfields with twist and shear...

C'est une bonne idée, le principe de base étant le même, bien vu !
Tu as mis du reflective shader, je trouve qu'il est vachement bien dosé, très soft bien réparti je dis bravo ! (http://smileys.sur-la-toile.com/repository/Respect/3d-emoticone-msn-frime-cool-94.gif)

I can hear and feel the wet grit, reminds me of my speleological days :)
The olm, or Proteus (Proteus anguinus), is a blind amphibian ...

ooooh yeah !!!
didn't know it was called Olm !!! in France we call them Protée Anguillard (i think) or Proteus anguinius as stated by Cyphyr

This second one really looks great... a bit better than the first, but because the water transparency is faked, the refraction is off, causing the water to seem deeper than you know it is, so it takes a bit of the realism away.

Still, I couldn't do this half as good as you!
Title: Re: Cavernae *1st evolution*
Post by: Seth on April 21, 2008, 02:45:55 PM
yep... too bad for the transparency... in fact, i am lookin' for a way to improve the water... i don't think i'll change anything else... except if somebody comes out with a great idea ^^'

Yes this one is better than the first, the water is a nice addition, now I'll go to RENDUS3D (héhéhé) to leave another comments...

Wow, great image!  Again, I'm really surprised that this didn't crash on you, but... wow!  Fantastic work!  IotW quality for sure, and your best so far I think.
Title: Re: Cavernae *1st evolution*
Post by: Seth on April 21, 2008, 06:01:45 PM
yep no crash ^^
but the reflection on the rocks is done by default shader and there is just a little bit of water... so no crash ^^

and thanks for your kind comments all ^^'

Yeah I love the start where the base jumpers dive into those holes in (I think) Borneo. Also theres the caves of Lechuguilla, simply stunning formations. Now theres a challenge to try to re-create.

My favorite was when they were SCUBA diving and thy went through the different water densitys.

Very cool image. I think it's just a bit too sharp/noisy though. The mood, lighting, reflectivity/wet look, etc. are all fantastic.

I was totally blown away by the cave jumpers- what an unexpected opening! There is a 3D model on the net of

Lechuguilla- not sure how complete/ up to date it is though- and it's a very rough one- you can see the polys! :)

The halocline was very odd!

The chandelier ballroom has me in mind of the poem
- through caverns measureless to man, down to a sunless sea.

Really great Seth!
I'd limit the reflectivity to the lower portion of the scene though to get rid of the white spots at the middle/top end, but still, a really amazing, convincing job!

Those white spots are mainly due to GI quality issues rather than the specularity being used.

Outstanding work here Franck. Great gritty soil and nice transparent water. The dramatic lighting is really effective.
415 hours and still some atmospheric grain :P *lol*
You mentioned raytracing being responsible for rendertime, you mean raytraced shadows in the rendertab or raytraced atmosphere?
If it's the latter I have my doubt whether it is necessary to use it or not, probably cuts rendertime to about 100 hours :)
Title: Re: Cavernae *FINAL*
Post by: Seth on May 16, 2008, 05:57:33 PM
it's raytraced atmo... and yeah it wasn't necessary ;) but i didn't know it before i tried on this one !!!
without the render would have been almost 200 hours shorter (^^)'
thanks T-U

This is beautiful work.  Very nicely done.  After staring at for awhile, I thought it is too shiny.  But, after continuing to look it over, I believe it's actually perfect for what you are doing.  Looks real and amazing.
