heres a starfield  i made in vue, its work good
using the background and default shader

On a related note, there's a program called Starbits that can generate some neat star maps (from realistic to not).  It's not that easy to find, but I found version 7.3 here (the latest, I think):

Lots of options. I have a Photoshop plugin that works fairly well.  Thanks to both of you.

my first post on the forum  ;D
a little collaboration to yours
on my images I use a litte software called Universe to create simple starfields
the link is the following

and it's very very simple to use. you can create nebula, planets, galaxies, etc
but only the starfield looks great.
it's shareware, but the trial version allows you to make the starfields. and it doesn't expires  :)

Welcome, thanks for the tip!  We should just stick this thread and put all starfield making tools in it.
