BigBen hasn't been around since May. His last post (I checked) was May 10th. Since his experimenting and consistent support of this forum was so large, I'm hoping someone can tell us where he's gone.
Yea, I was wondering the same. I used to get him and Harvey Birdman mixed up since they did similar work.
Maybe he got sucked into a dimensional vortex? I heard that happens to people sometimes. If you feel something tingly all over, start hearing loud static sounds, people around you start screaming (while looking at you), you are probably next.
it happened to my uncle...
honestly though I don't know what happened I think he had school or something like that though.
Maybe he came upon 1st Street and 1st Avenue in New York. I hear that's the nexus of the universe, and the only way out is... well, I don't remember. I think you call Jerry and he picks you up.
But who has his number these days, honestly?! BigBen could be there for decades.
Maybe he's still working on another experiment and has forgotten his name. He was always deep into something.
Likely it's the vortex thing mentioned above.
His profile says that he was- "Last Active: August 25, 2008, 12:59:33 AM" so I don't think he got sucked into the vortex. - Devin http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=1247 (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?action=profile;u=1247)
...that is, if it was really BigBen or maybe one of his phantasms.
I have been passing by occasionally. Various work projects have kept me away and more recently my job got "clustered" with some other departments and I am now about to be made redundant. Needless to say I'm still busy... looking for a new job etc... but I will have a little more time in which I'd like to polish up a few things... my website for starters, along with the "rainbow" and some nerdy animation examples (swaying trees with Arbaro, 180° fisheye lens)... and my river/lake model.
On the latter one, I tried going back to using the lake object/ default shader with masked opacity, but the lake object still seems to cover the entire terrain.

I have a render of this last one running at home and will check back in a new post later.
I've also tried a masked copy of the terrain but there are gaps in the river, probably due to the severe drop off at the edge of the mask.
I'll keep an eye out for your posts.
Welcome back and good luck finding an appropriate job for your talents.
Wow Ben, sorry to hear about the job! I hope you can get that sorted out without too much trouble. A guy with your talent ought not to be unemployed for long. ;D

Thanks guys.. I'll definitely be looking for something that will make more use of my talents. May as well make the most of the change ;)
Good luck with the job hunting. Providing the finances can stand it hold out for something good. Don't be tempted to take a rubbish job as a stop gap, I did that to pay the mortgage and have been stuck there for over ever since. :(
Crossing fingers.... interviewed yesterday for a job that includes managing a render farm ...err I mean assisting staff and students in a multimedia lab ;-)
Hahah, nice! Good luck with that ;).
