Title: Terragen Crash
Post by: bigbob85 on April 01, 2009, 01:01:47 AM
Hey,
I have a strong feeling theres an incompatability with my graphics card and Terragen... :(

First up, my spces:
OS : Vista Ultimate
Ram : 4gb
Gfx : ATI 3850 512mb
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo 1.8ghz
Running all latest updates and drivers are all uptodate.

I can run terragen just fine, and using a script I can even produce some nice skybox's, and all that works perfectly.
Its just whenever I try run the 3D preview thing, the box comes up and fills the bar for generating atmosphere, then I get the box where my 3D thing is ment to be, then windows says that terragen stopped responding.

I get the same issue when I try to run TG2.

My girlfriends laptop (also running vista) appears to run just fine, thats what makes me think its not the OS.

I have tried running in compatability mode for XP SP2 and disabling desktop compression and disabling visual styles... None of which worked. If anyone else has any idea, that'd be great :)

That sounds like a graphics driver issue. Sometimes the latest drivers can actually introduce new problems, or there may be "beta" drivers available in a special download area. I would try first reducing Acceleration in the video card driver settings and, if that doesn't help, try a previous driver revision, or try looking for a "beta" driver. For ATI cards you could also try the alternative "Omega" drivers.

Cheers. I'll give all them a look into and see what I can come up with.
Trying out ATI's overdrive overclocker feature now.. maybe i'll get lucky.. :S

Nope.. none of that worked.. :( I even upgraded to the correct ASUS drivers for it (ASUS EAH3850) and while it made better graphics in games (I was like.. wtf?!) it didnt help terragen...
