Title: Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle Price changes and Mega-bundle
Post by: xfrog on May 27, 2009, 02:27:56 AM
News for today is starting to roll out, and will soon appear on both Planetside and xfrog.com and i wanted to give a brief news flash here
first, so that everyone understands what is happening:

1. we have launched a mega-bundle (editable 1,300 plants, TG2, and Xfrog 3.5 creation/editing software in one bundle)
2. we have lowered the upgrade cost for existing users of Terragen 2 to the existing bundle and set a TG2 users discount to the new mega-bundle
3. we have  launched a side-grade offer product for owners of Vue/Bryce/Mojo/Carrara

all the products are available at: http://www.xfrog.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GOSS&Category_Code=XB

we are also offering, to anyone who has purchased any product at the previous price, a refund equivalent to the different in the new price as well as a matching credit towards the mega-bundle (your choice).

please contact sales@xfrog.com with any questions

and you may need to wait until later today for everything to appear on the two websites, so please be patient.

best,
-stewart

Great news!
That means I paid $100 to much... how would I get that refund? (Remember I'm Dutch, we love refunds  :P)

Is there also a special upgrade version from the 1300 tgo bundle to the new mega bundle?

It's great to see how you responded to the requests for including the editable format.
Thanks for the update!

Contact sales@xfrog.com to arrange to get the $100 refund, or to find out how to upgrade from your bundle to the Mega-Bundle (with the $100 refund applied as credit towards that). They will handle all upgrades fairly.

Wow now this is a very good deal. Since I own TG2 w/anim already then the upgrade will be $299 (-$100) = $199  or £124to get all 1300 tgo plants or $699 (-$100) = $599 or £374 to get all the plants in an editable format and XFrog 3.5 to edit them ~ excellent  ;D

Surely they should be the same price. Unless the upgrades also upgrade the TG2 > TG2 w/anim ......

UPGRADE TG 2 -> TG 2 w/Anim with XfrogPlants               $399

So if I got the £186.90 upgrade I'd get £62.49 off it? Or does that only apply to full packages?

So if I own Terragen 2 Deep Animation I can pay only $299 for all the 1,300 XfrogPlants?

Dose all this mean that existing owners of TG2 have to buy another version of it in order to get access to this deal? Is there away to un-bundle TG2 form this offer and just get the rest of it, or is this not possible?  ???

No, that's not right. The $100 is only a refund if you already bought the upgrade to the bundle at the earlier price, because the new upgrade price is $100 less than previously and we didn't want to be unfair to people who already bought the upgrade.

The $699 XfrogPlants Bundle includes Animation, which is why the upgrade is a different price depending on whether you already bought animation.

If you are upgrading from Terragen 2 -> Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle, the upgrade is $399.
If you are upgrading from Terragen 2 with Animation -> Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle, the upgrade is only $299.

These prices were chosen so that people who have already bought Terragen 2 at the pre-release price can get to the bundle for the same total price as "sidegraders" from Vue, Carrara, Bryce and MojoWorld: that's $599 for now. If you buy Terragen after May 31st you will end up paying more, adding up to the list price of $699.

Upgrades to the Mega-Bundle are a bit different. There is only one upgrade price for owners of Terragen 2 or Terragen with Animation: $699. The Mega-Bundle includes Animation (no matter what version you are upgrading from) but Xfrog are trying to simplify because there are so many different upgrade options already.

I'm sure these are wonderful models, but if I had $699 to spend on software it would likely go a couple of other places.  This is still a hitch of a price for me.

I'm a little confused at this pricing scheme. I purchased the TG2+animation XFrog bundle.  Of course I'd love to upgrade this to include the new editable plants and XFrog 3.5.  Can you explain how much this would be for a guy that can't seem to do math well today? =)

I will also email support for this info.

Thanks a lot guys, this is a serious perk and I can easily say I will spend the money I was thinking of spending on upgrading VUE on this deal instead.  I'm sure others will too.

Frankly, I live TG2 + XFrog, it's insane how nice renders turn out.

Ok I'm getting real confused now, the Greenworks web site keeps changing.
yesterday there was an option for getting the full bundle Xfrog, tg2 + 1300 editable plants for $699, I also have an email from Stewart saying the same. But today that price is gone. The only megabunde deal is $999. I was planning to purchase this taday but now I'm not so sure.
Richard

<EDIT>
Xfrog have changed their product page so that the differant product options are still there but the various upgrade options are available as a drop down menu
</EDIT>

<EDIT2>
The drop down menu allows one to choose different upgrade options. the option to upgrade from TG2 - TG2 owner upgrade - (save $300) - asks for a Product License, should I use my TG2 keyfile (tg2key.tgk)? And if so how?
</EDIT2>

Well I tried opening the keyfie in wordpad and it looks unlikely that this will work as a "Product License", do I even have a Product License? Suggestions please :)

If you email John at Planetside... registrations@planetside.co.uk, he will send you the key to put into Product License box on the XFrog site.
Cheers, Simon.

Ok, I don't seem to be getting a response from either Greenworks or Planetside.   Must be a busy time.  My question is, how much is the upgrade/sidegrade for those of us who own TG2+animation with 1300 XFrog plants and how do I go about upgrading (again) to the mega bundle.  My thought is that it would be a difference of $299 - $100 for the sidegrade offer so I'd be looking at $199.  Is that correct and how would I go about getting this deal worked out?

It's really not clear but I would definitely like to be working with the Mega bundle.  I wish I hadn't been so quick to get the xfrog plants deal but I wanted to show support for both companies with my wallet.  You guys are definitely headed in the right direction in my eyes.  I just hope we can get this upgrade thing worked out.

I don't see an option for getting the plant bundle in TGO and XFR formats for the people who would need XFR format the most - current Xfrog 3.5 users.  ???

Since Xfrog 3.5 goes for $399 itself, I can't see having to buy the big bundles that include Xfrog 3.5 when I already own it, but that seems to be the only way to get anything besides the TGO-only plants.  Is there an option for people who already own Xfrog 3.5? (And I also own Xfrog 4.3 for C4D if that has any bearing on things).  Thanks.

I was just about to ask that and was checking here to see if there was an answer before contacting sales.

Having had TG2 with animation from almost the beginning I was very interested in the tgo plants bundle but given the choice of 1300 plant models or Xfrog 3.5, (As many plants as I can make).  I went that route and ordered Xfrog.  If I had known about the new pricing and maga bundle I could have waited a couple of weeks.

if you own TG2 with animation, the 1,300 plants upgrade, TGO only, is $299
if you own TG2 without animation, the 1,300 plants upgrade, TGO only and a upgrade to TG2 animation,  is $399
if you own either TG2 version, to get the 1,300 plants in both TGO and XFR, and Xfrog 3.5 Full, and upgrade to TG2 animation, is $699
you can get a coupon from registrations@planetside.co.uk to take advantage of any of these discounts.

if you click on either bundle you can get them at the discount pricing.

these prices are not going to last long.

That only gives you tgo. If you want xfr as well you'll have to buy the megabundle.
Yeah, that's a shame.  The few people here who have previously made the investment in Xfrog certainly don't stand to benefit in the same manner from that offer.  I cannot see why we would be expected to buy Xfrog all over again.  But Stewart has replied to other posts in this thread many times since I asked the original question, so I can only presume things are how they are and existing Xfrog users just don't matter.  That's not how I'd treat my customers if I ran a business.  I used to be a strong advocate of Xfrog but everything that's happened since it became involved with Terragen has whittled away that positive outlook.  I can hardly believe it's the same Greenworks that I've known all these years.  :-\

Just a quick question about delivery/order fulfillment. I bought the MegaBundle on Thursday 28th May, any idea how long it will take to arrive? I know its a little early to expect it today but I'm just excited ... :)
Also it appears I now own two key files for Terragen, the one I got back in the day, a couple of years ago and the new one issued from Planetside after the MegaBundle purchace. Not that its particularly relevant (I dont have that many computers) but now could I install TG on two computers and have up to 10 render nodes ?? LOL

The standard method we are doing is to fully credit back your original purchase so you can order the Megabundle.
If you still haven't gotten this from me, please write it like this   sales@xfrog.com   subject: WAKE UP ALREADY

I'm waiting for a credit from Xfrog so I can go for the megabundle. Mohawk20 how long did it take for you to get the refund?

Richard, the re-issued key with the megabundle *replaces* your old key, so you still only have the 5+1 licenses. The emails that are sent out with megabundle keys should now make this clear.

I believe Xfrog uses a pretty fast shipping method. If you're near their fulfillment offices (US-based I think), it should be there within a short couple of days.

So if you have TG2 w Animation, you still need to pay 699 USD, and no discount for the existing license?

If you have TG2 + Animation you need to get a license code from John Mclusky and then buy the $299 upgrade using that code.

I think they are trying to be fair to everybody but the admin is a bit patchy. The staggered release of the plant pack, price change and Mega Bundle have probably made things more complex with there now being a huge number of upgrade paths and probable refunds.

Well thanks for replying, Stewart.  As I'm only one person I wouldn't need or use a second license.  And since I'm just a small freelancer, I can't afford to pay again for something I already own.  Maybe the bundles with the XFR's in them will appeal to larger companies even if they already own Xfrog seats, but that's not my situation.  So good deal or not, I must pass.  Thanks again for at least replying.

Just giving my personal view ( i.e. not as a representative of Planetside or anything ) from looking into VAT a while back, if you are making a personal purchase then you pay the VAT rate of the country of the seller. Purchases for a business with a VAT number work differently I think, more complicated, but in that case eventually you do pay VAT at your local rate. Not an expert, don't even live in the EU, but a quick search seems to back up how I remember it working.

Jo

Well, for those who are waiting for a refund it seems like you have to wait a lot:

I mailed Xfrog and waited for over two weeks before I got the confirmation mail from WorldPay that my money has been refunded. But it doesn't stop there. According to WorldPay you have to wait for another 5 to 30 business days to get the money on your account. So I have waited almost another week now and I haven't seen anything yet.

Hell, they were quick the other way  :(

while this topic is dated, I figured it is the one that I need...

Early this week I sent the following to sales@xfrog.com, but have received no reply.
-------------------------------------------------
I'm a registered owner of non-animation TG2 and Carrara 8.
I note that you have an upgrade TG2 path to => TG2 Megabundle (code XA-13) for $799.00
Does this include XFR formats and does this include XFROG 3.5?
I am not looking for animation ability, so XFROG LITE plus 1300 XFR plants is what I seek planning to use them in Carrara and Terragen renders as a soon to retire hobbiest/artist and am looking for the best price that would get me that.  And to learn XFROG while I'm at it.
If the TG2 Megabundle works, I may do that, but am also tempted to just by XFROG LITE for 299 and do with basic plants only, (though getting all 1300 plants for the additional 500 is obviously extremely tempting!!)
--------------------------------------------------

If anyone can answer my key question below and has anything to add, it would be much appreciated by me.

Does XA-13 inclue this include XFR formats and does this include XFROG 3.5?
Title: Re: Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle Price changes and Mega-bundle
Post by: airflamesred on July 23, 2010, 12:52:10 PM
According to the XFrog store it doesn't include XFrog but the models are in both .TGO and .XFR

So the full supercharged mega bundle looks like the better value for money
Title: Re: Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle Price changes and Mega-bundle
Post by: airflamesred on July 23, 2010, 01:05:23 PM
Now you've brought this up the xa-13 is the same price as xb27 to which I was refering
Title: Re: Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle Price changes and Mega-bundle
Post by: pfrancke on July 23, 2010, 01:26:44 PM
exactly
as far as I can figure out...

799 -- XB-27  -- tg2, xfrog 3.5, 1300 plants in tgo and xfr
799 -- XA-13 -- upgrade tg2,  mentions plants in tgo and xfr but does not explicitly mention xfrog 3.5 (not much of an upgrade! since you already have t2g and xfrog 3.5 is a question mark
499 -- XA-12 -- upgrade tg2, mentions 1300 plants but does not mention format.  If you don't get xfr, then you can't produce obj files.  (I was considering getting xfrog 3.5 lite for 299 later).

So I'm very much confused - they don't respond to email sent to sales@xfrog.com (I sent Monday I think), and their adds are not very clear (so if anyone has actually procured any of these packs, please share what they come with).   thanks for sharing airflamesred -- you see my confusion.  I'm tempted to get something, but for the amount of money involved, I'd like to be sure to know what I'm getting and what the impact is.  The above list from their adds is confusing and a mess.  Why would one want XA13 instead of XB27?  And if one wants an upgrade strategy for tg2, does XA-12 make sense or is it strictly TGO (meaning money wasted if you want to use in something besides TG2)

EDIT - fixed English and clarified response issue

I guess thats some sort 'Marketing strategy' for those that don't look to closely. I'm not at all familiar with XFrog so don't know how easy it is to make, or alter, trees etc but the packages seem to be aimed at TG users. Overall the XB27 is very good value, I think
Title: Re: Terragen 2 with XfrogPlants Bundle Price changes and Mega-bundle
Post by: Oshyan on July 24, 2010, 02:02:08 AM
XA-12 does not include XFRs as far as I know, so you would not be able to just buy Xfrog lite and have the same thing as the Megabundle. The price is the same anyway though, no? I think the TG2 upgrade path does include Xfrog as it's basically upgrading TG2 to the megabundle. The reason pricing may be in parity right now is we're running a sale on the bundles for Siggraph (about to be announced), so there may be no advantage (for now) for "upgrade" pricing.

Two smaller prices are easier to handle even when they add up the same - (but not if it doesn't work).  Anyway, I got an email from xfrog and was encouraged to hurry and purchase (I hope the upcoming Siggraph sale does not mean I made a mistake).  So I purchased.  But I purchased XB-27 (TG2 + xfrog + 1300).  I figured if I did that at least Planetside would get a piece of it.

Yes Oshyan is correct, there is no drop in the upgrade price, its simply a sale of both bundles - one has TG2 and 1,300 TGO plants, e.g. "Standard Bundle or simply "Bundle"  and the Mega is on sale, that's TG2 and 1,300 TGO and XFR and XFROG 3.5 Full.   so you can edit any plant, and export any plant. and create new plants.  Usage both inside and outside of TG 2 is allowed.  e.g. max, maya, bryce, vue, poser, lightwave, whatever you have, you get 1,300 plants plus TG 2 license.  Bundle pricing SIGGRAPH week on xfrog.com :   standard is $499 and Mega is $799,  please NOTE: only until Friday July 31.

TG2 can't animate objects yet. In the future you may be able to use object sequences, but this is not yet supported.

an "inofficial" way of doing could be this - and I say could be, as I did not test that. The terragen file can be edited with a text editor. So if you have an obj reader object inside your scene, you could try to create a sequence of this TG file. And in each TG file you could change the path to the refrenced obj.

But even if this works, this could result in heavy (GI) flickering
