Title: WIP - Perlin Gaps - Step 2
Post by: Volker Harun on August 19, 2009, 10:31:04 AM
Having done a lot with Voronoi by now, I am going to use those functionalities on perlin-noise now.

Step One.

Is this going to hatch? ;D

This is a very cool texture. Could you post the tgd file? I'd like to see how you are making these.

how do you get such sharp edges - gain node?

That looks so cool!

@njeneb ... no tgd-file ... at this moment
@mhaze ... I was playing with bias and gain nodes. But those are not included in here. The edge sharpness is due to a power node. Here the output has a power of 9.

Oh, cool.  Like a big version of a cat's bell.   :o   Neat.

Keep experimenting, if you have time, Volker.  This stuff is awesome to watch.

Thanks for the comments ... now to Step 2

Yet the same function ... almost.
You might see that this Perlin Maze is following the Gaps of Step 1.

To be continued ....

ah, now I see, I first did not understand. You mean the maze texture is flowing into the bigger cracks. Got you now.

Well, yes and no ...
You are right about your point ... whar I tried to say is:
When looking at the small gaps of Step 1 like at the bottom left of the render, you'll find the same figure in Step 2 ... but more detailed. ,-)

You'll never find your way if you have no goal ... It is a maze so far. I could not sleep well last night and was thinking of possibilities to use these functions.
Stretched they can be used for strata and terraces ... or for gaps on glaciers.
Last night I made a mistake and forgot to reconnect one node ... hence I was wondering where this tribals came from ,-)

Edit: Attached Tribal-Terrain image

You should take it to a 3D fab shop and have your own sculpture made.

P.S. Just like to say thanks for the Powerfractal surfacing tutorial - it taught me a lot.

That's just wonderfully sick. I'm sure we would all like to see a tutorial or a tgd file. I am really curious how this is done.

I´ll keep watching this eagerly.

Another update,

this image is a modified sine-cosine-function (the breakup reminds of some Mojo-setups).

Thanks for viewing,
Volker

Excellent. I like the one called Tribal Terrain.

I've been working in Mojo. Very specifically concentrating on blends e.g. where one material blends into another at altitude. Some very nice weird blending of mats is possible when you use wild functions like the ones you have here. Was thinking about how to get into this more in TG2.
