Title: How to output lower resolution LWO meshes?
Post by: Adam Chrystie on February 11, 2007, 11:39:32 PM
Hi all,

I'm using the LWO export node to export my heightfield and am wondering if there is a way to
tell TErragen to output geometry with less polygonal detail.

My heighfield is loaded from an existing image. Using the heightfield load node.

As far as I am aware there is no way to limit mesh density for export at this time. Of course you ought to be able to reduce polygon count in the 3D application in which you are loading the exported terrains - one at a time if doing the entire tile set is too demanding in one go. But this could introduce seams as well.

The export systems definitely need some improvement.

I'm sure in the future you guys will add more export controls.

THe reason i wanted a lower res mesh was so i could do my camera work in Maya with a low res environment and then import the camera motion via the Chan file format in to Terragen for final render.

Until then I'll try using Modo to merge the needed LWO files and try various poly reduce commands in Modo or Maya.

Modo has a nice Perl script which merges all the various loaded objects in to one layer...just takes forever to merge em all and RAM is always an issue with the hi res Terragen meshes.
