I'm experimenting with RTO off, and I'm quite pleased actually. Detail 0.7, AA 4. Even faster than with RTO on, and more pronounced displacement!

Volker Harun

Very cool result.

I guess RTO is good for fine-detailed objects like vegetation and with buildings RTO is not necessary ... (just guessing).

excellent test, the brickwork, cobbles and slates look great, some smoke from the chimneys next maybe?
:)

Looks great already, Ulco! I love the moss on the shutters. The kerb seems a bit strange as it's quite a sharp edge but with the same surface as the road, just a minor niggle, though. Great! :)

cyphyr

This is a test?
I admired the shutters in your last image too, great texture. I also particularly like the "just rained" look to the cobbled street.

This is choice work - details abound. Looking forward to the future iterations.

Dune

Next iteration, with some grass between the cobblestones (too much reflectivity, though), and some dirt (horse droppings or so) and wet muck in the gutters. Also some people, but they look like hooligans or coppers right now. I need to make some medieval townspeople. Currently building a nicer lantern. Clouds need attention as well.
The gutters are made by simple shapes (this was the best I could do), but I forgot how you could warp simple shapes, which would be nice, just a slight warp. At least I thought at one point someone managed to bend a simple shape..?
I wish we could choose which objects to use RT on !! That would be great. Is that possible, staff?

Volker Harun

Inspite of your mentioned reflectivity it looks really convincing. With those people you could sell it as a typical scenery of modern netherlands ,-)

maybe a bruin café or coffeshop or two?!
:)
looks really good btw!

FrankB

Wow, amazing scene that's coming together here :)

I like the houses, they are getting better also. I would be interested in buying some of your models, btw.

Regards,
Frank

Dune

@ Frank: I don't know if I can do that, as they are for a project I'm working on, but I'll consider it. But I don't have a clue about decent prices yet.

Anyway, here's a night render. Made some new street lamps, and got rid of the grass. There's still a bit of grain around the lights, although I switched off glow, and raised cloud quality.

Dune

And another one...

Redwolf

These are really good
i like the nightscene better, now i have to render my railway scene with RTO off

Very Very good ... you should keep an eye on turning on soft shadows for the lights, though ... the distance from light source to shadow is very short, so they should be quite soft.
