Hi guys I'm new to terragen and have run into a little problem Im not sure how to solve.

I rendered out GI cache for my scene since it was flickring slightly. The cache sits on our server and I have made sure to use UNC paths.
We use deadline to render with 4 machines.

But I get an error from deadline saying it cant locate the GI cache file. It seems to be looking for the file locally even though I have made sure it has the right unc path.

Anything I am doing wrong?

Thanks

There aren't many professional TG users and the few who are aren't very active here, if at all.
So best you can get is a guess from experienced users which don't have render farms or do not use render managers.

If the path is empty, so only with a filename mentioned - like 'cache.gic' - then TG assumes the cache file is present in the same folder as where the .tgd is.

For other situations it's best to use complete path description, but I have no idea how that would work for a network drive.

My best guess is to put the .tgd file where the cache files are kept and remove the path to the .gic files in your .tgd.
Except for the filename itself of course.

Thanks for the replies guys.... Managed to sort it out by using mapped drives on all the machines in question and then using the mapped drive location. Ironically this is the exact way you should not use data on the farm as it always wants unc paths. Lol

But it works so I'm happy - go figure.  ;D

Thanks again and hope to chat soon.

Sorry we didn't respond to this earlier, but glad you got it worked out. Did you try absolute network paths, e.g. \\workstation\c\files\scene\gicache.gic ?
