I've got something else that I, for one, would find very useful; turning parts off, per instance.
I often use populations (of people, or horses), that I'd like to color differently, or turn certain parts off across the pop. I now use a world mask, which controls a merge shader for say 2 colors of a blouse, or a world opacity mask to obliterate say the hat of a person in certain areas. But that is not foolproof (half hats, bicolored blouses).
If there would be a way to use the instance number (?) to either turn some part of an object off or color differently, as a 'hard fact' instead of a fickle mask...  by some percentage, or indeed, a overlying mask. And preferably with the opportunity to merge/mix more than 2 versions.
It would be very cool!
Like now; I am doing a reconstruction of the Siege of Leiden in 1574, which means a lot of Spanish soldiers. I'd rather not use clones, so some color or trouser variation (they had weird clothing, btw) in a 'simple' way within one population would be great. There would be several populations of people anyway.
