The File menu contains items relating to saving and opening Terragen 2 files, as well as importing other sorts of files.

Items:

New: This item creates a new project. You can use the Startup preferences panel to make TG2 either create the project using default settings, or use your own custom settings.

Open: This item lets you open saved TG2 project files.

Open Recent: Clicking on this item opens a submenu which lets you choose a recently opened or saved project file to open. The menu holds up to 10 files. You can use the Clear Menu item at the bottom to clear all the files currently tracked by the menu. After a crash you may notice that Open Recent submenu no longer has any files in it. This is done as a safety measure.

Save: This item lets you save your current project.

Save As: This item lets you save your current project to a different file.

Save Incremental: This item allows you to easily save snapshots or versions of your current project file. As an example of why this might be useful, let's say you decide you don't like how a scene is turning out. You can go quickly back to a previous version and start again.

Save Incremental adds a version number of the end of the file name, for example "My Project_0001.tgd". The next time you save the file using Save Incremental the version number is increased by one. If you would like TG2 to always save files incrementally, rather than having to choose to do so from the File menu, you can go the File Saving panel of the preferences and check the "Always save project files incrementally" checkbox.

Revert to Saved: This item discards all the changes you've made to the current project since you last saved the project file, making all the settings the same as when you last saved.

Export Gathered Project (Deep only): This item opens the Gather Project which allows you gather a project. Read more about project gathering here.

Import Object: This item opens a submenu which lets you import a 3D object file either as a single object or as a population.

Insert Clip File: This item lets you insert a clip file into the current project. A clip file is a collection of saved nodes.

Insert Recent Clip File: Clicking on this item opens a submenu which lets you choose a recently inserted or saved clip file to open. The menu holds up to 10 files. You can use the Clear Menu item at the bottom to clear all the files currently tracked by the menu.

After a crash you may notice that Insert Recent Clip File submenu no longer has any files in it. This is done as a safety measure.

Save Nodes as Clip File: This item lets you save the nodes selected in the last used, or focused, network view as a clip file.

Reveal Temporary Files (Mac) / Explore Temporary Files (Windows): This item will open the folder TG2 uses to store various temporary files. On Windows it will open in Explorer, and on the Mac it will open in the Finder.

Exit (Windows only): This item exits TG2. Before exiting TG2 presents you with a message box asking if you want to exit, save your changes to the current project and exit or cancel the exiting process and continue working.
