but that's the least of my problems - Avg Internet Security 2011 found a virus on my system, and firefox & IE have been acting weird, new browser tabs occasionally popping up leading to questionable websites

Ugh. I hate malware. A couple weeks ago I got two rogue "security" programs that accused hundreds of system files of being viruses and kept me from doing anything. I had to restore to factory defaults and in the process lost everything on the hard drive.

Try running the free version of McAfee. A friend had a virus just like this. McAfee was able to handle it.
AVG full version, do a rootkit scan.

Lane, I can literally only see a black rectangle with a little grinning pumpkin at the bottom. My lcd monitor is admittedly not the greatest but the images on page 1, especially the second one, look great. Can everyone else make out features in the blackness? I think I need to recalibrate my screen, again. I can see a tiny hint of light against the edge of one, maybe two, trees, absolutely nothing else.

* OK, just looked at it on my girlfriend's computer, she has a great screen, I can see into the trees, a little. Yup, it's very, very dark for my taste. Still, I need to try and balance this screen a little better...

I like the picture! I don't know what you can do about it, but I'd suggest making the face of the pumpkin a little more blurred.

sorry jbest, i was using the mitchell-netravali AA filter, i changed it to cubic b spline (soft) afterwards

WOW!

Now I can see 4 pumpkins and every tree. My bad, sorry, Lane! This monitor has been out of whack for too long that I've just got used to it over time. Now it's all good!
